Integrate Technology to Assess Sleep Disorders
Sleep is a human necessity. It helps us grow muscle, repair tissue, synthesize hormones, consolidate memory, and generally restore and rejuvenate our bodies. Yet when sleep goes awry, it damages multiple body systems and processes and eventually leads to sleep disorders. In this package of CME lectures, renowned sleep expert Phyllis C. Zee, MD, PhD, discusses the scientific evidence about the causes and treatments of sleep dysfunction. She also suggests technological devices and interactive tools for patients to provide practitioners with real-time data to assess sleep disorders. A panel of sleep experts also discusses technology for assessing and interpreting sleep data.Rest, Sleep, and Circadian Rhythms: Exploring the Underlying Causes of Insomnia and Other Sleep Disturbances - Phyllis C. Zee, MD, PhD
Circadian Rhythm Sleep-Wake Disorders: Assessment and Treatment - Phyllis C. Zee, MD, PhD
Circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorders appear when an individual experiences a recurring disruption of sleeping and waking rhythms for at least three months. Accordingly, sleep-wake disorders can cause mental, physical, social, occupational, educational, and other impairments in normal functioning. As a natural follow-up to her first lecture, Phyllis C. Zee, MD, PhD, recommends that healthcare workers treat sleep-wake disorders by considering not only sleep cycles but other daily cycles as well, including activity, feeding, and light exposure. Zee provides tools that practitioners can use to address these daily cycles to treat sleep-wake disorders.
